North Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic is proud to announce the addition of Aaron Joiner, DO, to its team of orthopedic specialists. A Shoals native, Dr. Joiner is returning home to serve the community where he was raised and where his family has long been dedicated to orthopedic care.
Fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon returns to the Shoals
Dr. Joiner completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa before obtaining his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lynchburg, VA.
Following medical school, Dr. Joiner pursued residency training in orthopedic surgery at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, AL (2019–2024). He then completed advanced fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine at the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham (2024–2025).
As a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Joiner specializes in sports medicine, as well as the arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. He is passionate about helping athletes and active patients recover from injuries and return to the activities they enjoy most.
“What excites me most is being able to help people right here at home,” Dr. Joiner said. “Whether it’s an athlete trying to get back on the field or a neighbor wanting to stay active, I’m grateful for the chance to serve this community.
“After years of training, it means so much to bring that experience back to the Shoals and care for the people and families who make this place home for me.”
Throughout his training, Dr. Joiner gained extensive experience as a team physician. He has provided orthopedic care for numerous high school athletic programs, served as a team physician for The University of Alabama, and offered medical coverage for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament and the SEC Baseball Tournament. In addition, he has provided team coverage for the Birmingham Barons and the Alabama Ballet.
Dr. Joiner is an active member of both the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Joins his father to continue decades of trusted orthopedic care
Returning to the Shoals is especially meaningful for Dr. Joiner, as he joins North Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic alongside his father, Dr. A.E. Joiner, who has been a trusted provider in the community for decades. Together, they look forward to continuing a legacy of compassionate, expert orthopedic care for patients across the region.
North Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic is excited to welcome Dr. Joiner to the team and to the Shoals community he calls home.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Joiner to the North Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic team,” says Beth Samson, NABJC administrator. “His advanced fellowship training in sports medicine and his deep ties to the Shoals community make him an exceptional addition.
“Patients will benefit not only from his expertise, but also from his genuine commitment to caring for this region.”
